Abstract

Today’s educational concept puts the student in the center of education, emphasizes the diversity of content choices, in addition it introduces students to different methods and forms of work, teaches them the acquisition of independent knowledge, which is essential for lifelong learning.

In accordance with the studies and research results, cooperative learning has a positive effect on students ability to cooperate, activity, development of communication skills, social relationships, so the majority of teachers have a positive opinion about this learning strategy.

Our studies show cooperative learning, with the aim of examining the attitudes of teachers working in our environment and exploring how the application of a collaborative learning strategy affects students’ performance in mathematics in the lower grades. The questionnaire was filled in by 257 (N = 257) teachers working in different primary schools in Vojvodina, Serbia.

The results are showing us that cooperative learning has a positive effect on students performance in applying the acquired knowledge and solving problems. The achieved results are encouraging from the point of view of educational practice and help to reinforce the assumption that teachers in the lower grades of primary school show a positive attitude towards cooperative learning.
