Development of entrepreneurial competences through the modern educational curriculum in the Republic of Croatia

Abstract

This paper analyzes the implementation of the theme of Entrepreneurship and the development of entrepreneurial competencies within the educational system of the Republic of Croatia. Accelerated changes in today’s world, which increasingly change the characteristics of the market, require the development of innovation and entrepreneurship, and therefore they become one of the goals of the educational process. The aim of this work is to meaningfully present the methods of developing entrepreneurial competences among primary and secondary school students, and at the same time, emphasis is placed on the challenges in implementing these methods. The methodology used in the preparation of this paper is based on the analysis of already available literature related to the topic of entrepreneurship and the development of entrepreneurial competences in the school or educational system. The analysis of the available literature indicated the emphasis on the importance of the subject of Entrepreneurship in the curricula of the Republic of Croatia. Research especially points to numerous positive effects at the micro and macro level in the case of integrating this topic into the teaching process. However, research shows that the topic of Entrepreneurship is not implemented consistently in educational practice and that teachers do not possess the necessary competencies to implement the topic of Entrepreneurship in classes, which indicates the importance of continuous education and teacher education in order to be able to meet the requirements of modern education.
