Abstract

The inclusion of people on the autism spectrum, their participation in everyday social life, must be seen from their perspective, that is, the principle of inclusion «nothing for us without us» must be respected. The paper discusses the results of research1 on daily functioning of people on the autism spectrum. 33 persons with autism from Serbia, Slovenia and Cyprus participated in the research. The goal of the study was to see the challenges of daily functioning and self-sufficiency, as well as the priorities from the perspective of people with autism. The research concluded how independent they are in performing activities, what is important to them in functioning, what disturbs them, how they calm down, self-regulate, and what they would like to master, in order to become self-sufficient in a social context, and whether they think virtual reality technology will help in this discipline.
